“Sunday Scaries”

As we enter the last week of Black History Month, I have no idea how this week will end. Obviously, we are in continuously unprecedented times. Fires. Plane crashes. Daily government shake ups. Add to that my job announced corporate layoffs were coming in early March which I have no idea how it will affect my team or me. The thought of layoffs was initially so scary to me. It can be so easy to be discouraged, hopeless, or afraid especially when the future is unknown. When I focus on things that are out of my control, or seem to be going wrong, those are sometimes emotions I experience. That’s why I strive to always keep my eyes on Jesus. His love is unwavering. His power, unlimited. His grace sufficient. His sovereignty, all encompassing. When I focus on Jesus, I feel better. Peace fills my heart. Joy overflows. Worry dissipates. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. In times that can seem so dark, where do you find the light?

I have no idea what your “Sunday Scaries” might be, but I know God can give you peace and joy as you face them all. Here’s some scriptures that have been encouraging me. I hope they encourage you too.

Isaiah 26:3 - You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.

John 16:33 - I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

It’s going to be a great week! We first have to believe.
